Dialects of Kannada language

The Kannada language has many about 20 dialects.

  • Tiptur Kannada
  • Dharwad Kannada
  • North Karnataka Kannada
  • Nanjangud Kannada (Vakkaliga dialect)
  • Mysore Kannada[1]
  • Chola Naikar (Chola Naickans) tribes in Nilambur jungle in Kerala speak a dialect of Kannada.[2]
  • Kodava language also historically considered as dialect of Kannada language.

Havyaka Kannada

Havyaka Kannada has North Havyaka and South Havyaka sub-dialects. Northern Havyaka Kannada is mainly spoken by the people of Uttara Kannada district and Southern Havyaka Kannada dialect is spoken by the people of Dakshina Kannada district and Udupi district.

Badagu

Badagu is the dialect of Kannada spoken by the Badaga community in the Nilgiri region in Tamil Nadu. It has all the characteristics to become an independent language.

Kota-Kundapura Kannada

Kota-Kundapura is the dialect of Kannada which is spoken by the people living in the area which is formed by, in the west, Arabian Sea to Shankarnarayana, in the east, Siddapura, Brahmavara in the south and Shiroor in the north.[4]

Holiya

Holiya, also called Holar, Hole, Holu, Golari-Kannada spoken in Maharashtra and Madya Pradesh.[5]
