Bangalore Kannada

Bangalore Kannada (Kannada: ಬೆಂಗ್ಳೂರ್ ಕನ್ನಡ ) is a vernacular dialect of the Indian language, Kannada, spoken mainly by people residing in and around Bangalore.

This dialect is primarily spoken by youth and in informal discourse between locals. This slang is quickly picked up by the outsiders who stay in Bangalore. The slang is also pure Kannada and is quite old, too, and not of a cosmopolitan nature. The use of slang may give outsiders an inaccurate impression.

Bangalore Kannada is spoken by the native people almost everywhere: at home, in educational institutions and other places. Bangalore and Mysore Kannada are the most commonly used in other mediums such as plays and movies. Also, Bangalore Kannada has a neutral accent.

One hears Authentic Kannada at localities/areas like Malleshwaram, Basavanagudi, Rajajinagar, Chamarajpet, Banashankari, Sadashivanagar, Vijaynagar, Jayanagar, J P Nagar, Gandhi Bazaar, Kalasipalya etc. At other newer areas, one may hear other languages along with Kannada.

Upendra a popular star of urban blues is prominent linguist of Bangalore Kannada. His famous song from a movie named Upendra he has popularised the word "oLu" - meaning rubbish. The song says "MTV subbulakshmige bari OLu" - meaning for a doyen of Karnataka Shastreeya Sangitha like Subbulakshmi, MTV is rubbish. He is known to popularize the side effects of urbanization

Jaggesh has to his credit for inventing word "Dagaar" meaning a whore/prostitute for those who follow seductive and revealing outfits on city roads. One more innovation is "Dow" (from Dove rhymed with love) for referring a lover.

Sudeep introduced a word "Kichcha" in a superhit blockbuster movie Huchcha which means a person with lot of fire or "Kichchu" inside him. In fact Kicha is used to denote Lord Krishna which becomes Kichcha due to his fiercesome nature in this heart touching movie.

Anant Nag had introduced terms "Roll Call" in one of movies meaning one who makes fools of people from his talking skills.

Ambareesh had introduced a term "Guldu Khan" - to mean a stupid/brainwashed person - related to a foolish Muslim invader in his films.

Ravichandran and Kashinath have also contributed a lot of pun related dialogues and terms in their movies.

* Konga - Konga or Konga's are generally referred to tamil peoples who are living in Bangalore.these Konga's are from tamilnadu.they are working here because for their survival.they migrated here because they are thrown out from tamilnadu by two corrupt politicians [karunanadi & jayalalitha] .these konga's are born to tamil prostitutes who are in tamilnadu. sometimes they are also referred to as "SON OF PROSTITUTES".
* Kwaatle/Kirik - Person who always induce problems
* Maga - literally means son/one who is young,If you go to some remote village in south karnataka (around mandya) Older people usually use the word "Maga ba elli" means "son come here",to be specific someone uses 'Maga' to address someone who is younger than him/her, but now a days the meanging has changed especially in bangalore, where it used to speak to some one who we know well like a friend, it closely maps to the English word Dude.
* Meter - Measure of bravery by asking crudely "Meter estide " or "How much Meter do you have". often compared to Auto Rickshaw meters of Bangalore which jump at road humps and are notoriously dear even for a short distance
