Former operators at Colonia Airport were ARCO, Aero Uruguay and LAPA flying between Colonia and Buenos Aires-Aeroparque.
Presently the airport is dedicated to general aviation.

Access
The airport is located 17 km (11 mi) from downtown Colonia del Sacramento along route 1.
Future developments
There are plans to develop this airport in a partnership between BQB Líneas Aéreas and the Uruguayan Government. These plans may be on hold since BQB decided to establish its hub at Punta del Este-Laguna del Sauce instead.
