The airport is named after Argentine aviator Jorge Newbery.

It is the main airport for domestic flights in Buenos Aires and only allows flights from Argentine and Uruguayan companies. Its military sector is where authorities normally board the Tango 01 presidential aircraft; which is based at "El Palomar" military airport. In Buenos Aires, there is a bigger airport named Ministro Pistarini International Airport which handles all international flights. It's located in Ezeiza neighbourhood, just 30 milles (45 km) from Buenos Aires.

Accidents and incidents

On 31 August 1999, the Aeroparque was the scene for the crash of LAPA flight 3142, when 63 aboard and 2 people on ground were killed on the failed take-off of a LAPA flight.
