Concourse of Dakota MRT Station

Dakota MRT Station (CC8) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Circle Line in Singapore. The station is served by 2 exit and entry points. The station was opened on 17 April 2010 along with the rest of Stage 1 & 2 of the Circle Line. It is operated by SMRT Corporation.

The livery of the station concourse is green and white.

The construction of Dakota Station and the tracks led to the closure of the stretch of Old Airport Road between Cassia Link and Guillemard Camp Road in March 2006. Instead, Jalan Tiga was extended to Guillemard Road, opening up a traffic junction there. In addition, the old Guillemard Camp Road was widened to provide public buses enough space to drive through. Despite the widening of the road, there have been several accidents occurring near the T-junction of Guillemard Road and Guillemard Camp Road. The closed stretch of Old Airport Road has since re-opened on 29 December 2008 at 5am.^[1]

It was built as part of stage 2 of the Circle Line by the same joint venture responsible for the Nicoll Highway station.

Built in the middle of a HDB estate and within walking distance of several schools, the station serves many residents in the area since its opening on 17 April 2010. Food enthusiasts living far away can also travel here to the legendary Old Airport Road Hawker Centre.

Dakota station is named after the Dakota DC-3 aircraft that commonly used to land at the nearby Kallang Airport when it was still in commercial use.

Dakota station is near to Mountbatten station, which is located on the same stretch of road and serve the area of Old Kallang Airport Estate and residents living along Dunman Road.

2011 Service Disruption

On Sep 20 2011, almost 27,000 morning rush-hour commuters were affected by the disruption of train services on all 16 Circle Line stations. Preliminary investigations have shown that a faulty cable located below the platform level of Dakota Station caused a power trip that affected the entire Circle Line system.

SMRT said the disruption started at about 5:30am. It added that train service from Marymount to Paya Lebar, and Dhoby Ghaut to Stadium, resumed at 8:30am. Full services were up and running again just before 10am.

The disruption comes some two weeks before the final 12 stations of the Circle Line are opened for service.

This was the largest shutdown of the Circle Line since its opening in 2009. ^[2]
