On 30th September
2000 , a 70 year-old man was killed along the elevated tracks when he was hit by an MRT train near the Bedok station toward Kembangan MRT Station. Police were notified at 9.47 pm and the man was pronounced dead at about 10.30 pm by Singapore Civil Defence Force officers. It took six police and SCDF officers to pull the body out from under the train. According to passengers interviewed, announcements over the public-address system said there was a technical problem with the tracks.Train services between Eunos and Bedok stations, both east- and west-bound, were disrupted for about 1 1/2 hours, up to 11.20 pm. Hundreds of passengers were told to get off the trains and use the bus services which were added to ferry passengers between the Eunos and Tanah Merah stations.
