interchange station on the East West Line and on the future Circle Line inSingapore .Location
Paya Lebar station is located near next to the
Singapore Post centre. Due to its proximity to the centre, many of the employees there commute by train. It is just south of the urban planning area and town it serves,Paya Lebar . The station also serves theGeylang Serai district, the popular Geylang SeraiHawker centre , and theMalay Village . Therefore, it usually gets crowded during theHari Raya period, asMuslims and other visitors flock to the festivalbazaar .Circle Line
There is extensive
construction going on outside the station with the building of the Circle Line's station of the same name. As a result, congestion usually occurs on the roads outside the station during the evening peak hours. However, these works are into their final phase, and relief from the heavytraffic is expected soon. The existing East-West line station will be linked to the underground Circle Line station twice. The first link will be at the western end of the platform through a series of escalators down to ground level and thereafter another set of staircase and escalators down to the Circle Line concourse level. The second connection will be through the former Exit A of the East-West Line station concourse which has been closed since late 2007 for reconstruction. Here, lift users are able to transfer to another lift that descends to the concourse level of the Circle Line station. Other commuters can either descend through stairs or an escalator.
