Britney Spears discography Releases ↙Studio albums 7 ↙Compilation albums 4 ↙EPs 1 ↙Singles 37 ↙Box sets 5 ↙Promotional singles 2 ↙Other appearances 2 The discography of Britney Spears, an American pop singer, consists of seven studio albums, three compilation albums, thirty-five singles, two promo singles and six video albums.
In 1997, Spears signed a recording contract with Jive Records and released her debut studio album, ...Baby One More Time, in January 1999. The album opened at number one on the Billboard 200 and went on to be certified fourteen-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.[1] It features the global hit singles "...Baby One More Time", which notably topped the Billboard Hot 100 and "(You Drive Me) Crazy". Sixteen months later after the release of ...Baby One More Time, Spears released her second album, Oops!... I Did It Again, which became the fastest-selling album ever by a female act in the US with over 1.3 million copies sold in its opening week.[2] "...Oops!" was certified ten-times platinum by the RIAA and produced another set of hit singles including "Oops!... I Did It Again" and "Stronger".[1] In November 2001, Spears released her self-titled album, which opened at the top of the Billboard 200 and produced the worldwide hit "I'm a Slave 4 U", which is notable for her change of style from bubblegum pop to dance-pop and exploring into urban pop.[3]
After a two year break, Spears' fourth studio album, In the Zone, was released in November 2003 and produced the worldwide hit "Toxic", which earned Spears her first Grammy Award.[4] In November 2004, Spears released her first hits compilation. It sold over one million copies in the United States and nearly six million copies worldwide.[5] In October 2007, Spears' fifth studio album, Blackout, was released. It was positively received by critics, who praised its innovative and modern sound. Blackout opened at number two on the Billboard 200, sold nearly three million copies worldwide, and featured the hit singles "Gimme More" and "Piece of Me".[5] One year later, Circus, her sixth studio album, made Spears the only act in the Nielsen SoundScan era, 1991–present, to have four albums debut with 500,000 or more copies sold in the US.[6] Circus sold nearly four million copies worldwide and produced the worldwide hits "Womanizer" and "Circus".[5] In late 2009, Spears released the single "3" which became her third number one on the Hot 100 which was followed by her second greatest hits album.
In March 2011, Spears released her seventh studio album Femme Fatale which debuted at number one on Billboard 200.[7] This made Spears the only female artist ever to have six number one debut albums, and have seven albums debut in the top two spots. The first single "Hold It Against Me" became her fourth number one single on the Hot 100, and her second single to debut at number one.[8]
Spears has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists in the history of contemporary music.[9] In addition, she is ranked as the eighth best-selling female recording artist in the US with thirty-three million albums certified by the RIAA and is currently the fifth best-selling act, as well as the highest-selling female, of the decade in the country.[10][11] Spears is also the world's most successful teenager recording artist with over thirty-seven million albums sold worldwide before she turned twenty, with only two years of releasing music.[12]
