The Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri, is the diocese of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America with jurisdiction over western Missouri. It is in Province 7 and its cathedral, Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, is in Kansas City, Missouri, as are the diocesan offices.[1]

In 2009, the 7th Bishop of West Missouri, the Rt. Rev. Barry Howe, announced his intention to retire and called for the election of his successor. Nominations for the election of his successor closed on March 22, 2010, with a final list of nominees announced in September 2010 ahead of the election at the Diocesan Convention on November 5–6, 2010. The list included: The Rev. Peter Casparian, The Rev. Canon E. Daniel Smith, and the Very Rev. Martin S. Field. On the third ballot, Fr. Field, then Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Flint, MI, received sufficient votes in the clergy and lay orders to be elected. Fr. Field was consecrated and installed as the 8th Bishop of West Missouri on Saturday, March 5, 2011, by Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori. His enthronment at the diocesan cathedral was the next day, Sunday, March 6th.[2]
