History
In 1996, it was created as "Charleswood—Assiniboine" from Winnipeg–St. James riding.
In 1998, it was re-named "Charleswood St. James—Assiniboia".
In 2003, it was abolished, but the entire district was transferred to "Charleswood—St. James", and small parts of Winnipeg Centre and Winnipeg South Centre were added.
In 2004, it was re-named "Charleswood—St. James—Assiniboia".

Its Member of Parliament is Steven Fletcher, a former engineer. He was first elected in 2004. He is a member of the Conservative Party of Canada, and was their critic on Health when the party was in opposition. In the last parliamentary session he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Health. Fletcher is the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Health and the Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario.
After the 2008 election, Fletcher was appointed to cabinet as Minister of State (Democratic Reform) and member of the Treasury Board cabinet committee. Fletcher is only the third Conservative cabinet minister from Winnipeg since Confederation. The other two were Gordon Churchill and Hugh A. MacDonald at the end of the 19th century.
