Fort McMurray—Athabasca (formerly Athabasca) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the Canadian House of Commons since 1968. It is a rural riding in northeast Alberta, representing the municipal districts of Wood Buffalo, Opportunity, Lesser Slave River, Big Lakes and the counties of Lac La Biche, Athabasca and the south-eastern part of Northern Sunrise.

History

It was created as "Athabasca" riding in 1966 from Athabaska and Peace River ridings.

In 2004, it was re-named "Fort McMurray-Athabasca".

This riding has elected the following Members of Parliament:

* 1993-2004: Dave Chatters - Reform (1993-2000), Canadian Alliance(2000-2003), Conservative (2003-2004) - He represented Westlock—St. Paul until retiring in 2006.
* 2004-present: Brian Jean - Conservative

Current Member of Parliament

Its Member of Parliament is Brian Jean, a former barrister and solicitor. He was first elected in 2004. He represents the Conservative Party of Canada. In the last parliamentary session he served as a member on the 'Legislative Committee on Bill C-38' and the 'Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development'.
