Shops have started opening since the end of May and its soft opening was on the July 2, 2009. The shopping centre sits on the land previously occupied by the Specialists Shopping Centre, which was torn down.
Designed by DP Architects as Singapore's first vertical mall standing 12 storeys above ground and 2 levels of basement. A super escalator on street level will take pedestrians up to Exchange@4 on Level 4. The mall is served by a total of 52 escalators (including 6 super escalators) and 12 glass elevators[1].
The mall boasts 160m frontage along Orchard Road (the shopping belt of Singapore), giving potential tenants visibility.
Orchard Central $9 million Art Trail
Worth over $9 million, the permanent display is curated by Singapore National Arts Council.
Artworks from international artists from US, Japan, Australia and Denmark were specially commissioned for the sites they now occupy.
The total development cost of the project is estimated to be more than S$650 million.
