The department store at Mustafa Centre consists of two shopping centres: one retailing jewellery and household appliances, and has a supermarket; and the other selling books, CDs and DVDs, watches, electronic goods, footwear and clothing. Mustafa Centre sells more than 150,000 types of merchandise[2]
Located at a walking distance from the Farrer Park MRT Station on the North East Line, Mustafa Centre is a retail hub that has many Indian shoppers.
History
Mustafa was founded by Indian businessman Mustaq Ahmad in 1971, and at first sold mainly clothing. In 1985, Mustaq moved his business to the ground floor of Serangoon Plaza.
As his business expanded, Mustaq bought over a shophouse on Syed Alwi Road. Subsequently, he also bought the neighbouring units, but decided to build a new shopping mall to house his business.[citation needed] In April 1995, Mustafa Centre was completed and Mustaq shifted his business to operate from the new six-storey building. Mustafa currently has more than 1,270 employees.[2]
Mustafa Centre also sold parallel imported cars in 2005 but has since stopped selling cars.
