The School of the Arts is Singapore's specialized independent pre-tertiary arts school. It was initiated by Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts, and caters to youths who have talent and capability in the arts. Its new campus is currently being built in the Bugis area of Singapore, also known as the Arts and heritage district of Singapore. It will be located adjacent to the The Cathay and the new campus is expected to be ready by 2009.

Vision

Shaping and impacting society through education in the arts.

Mission

To create a vibrant environment for learning that is uniquely anchored in the arts, celebrating experimentation, expression and discovery, with the aim of developing leaders who will draw on their creative talents to enrich society.

Curriculum

The School of the Arts adopts a 6-year connected arts and academic curriculum and offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma as the graduating qualification.

Students audition for a specialisation in music, dance, theatre or the visual arts. However, students in the first two years are exposed to the basics of all four disciplines and continue to adopt a cross-disciplinary approach even as they develop in their chosen discipline.

The average class size of approximately 20 - 25 students provides exposure to the high standards of a rigorous academic and arts programme. The School of the Arts believes that the connecting of the curriculum core concepts and supportive arts environment will cultivate greater clarity of insight, critical evaluation, and creativity.

The 6-year programme will also include exposure through performances, exhibitions and internships with arts companies and other creative businesses. This would include design and media modules (e.g. film) for both visual arts and performing arts students. Artist residencies may also be offered at the School of the Arts.
