Oakwood is an area on the northern edge of London, in the London Borough of Enfield and mostly in postal area London N14. Historically, it was the southernmost area of Enfield Chase. It is bordered on the north by Trent Park, and (moving clockwise) by World's End, Grange Park, Winchmore Hill, Southgate, East Barnet, and Cockfosters.

Local history

Oakwood is partly in the N14 and partly in the EN2 postcode district, with a few properties from Trent Park in EN4. The name of the area is almost certainly a relatively recent invention. Enfield Council created Oakwood Park in 1927, probably named after Oak Lodge which stood nearby. The name of the area is bound up with the naming of Oakwood tube station, which finally settled on Oakwood as a name in 1946 – 13 years after it first opened. There is an Oak Wood in Trent Park, but this is on the far side of Cockfosters Station.

The area was mainly developed in the 1930s. Before that, the only building of note was South Lodge - one of the four lodges of Enfield Chase. South Lodge was demolished in 1935: West Lodge Park, East Lodge Nursery, and North Lodge Farm are the locations of the other three lodges. South Lodge Drive and South Lodge Crescent are reminders of South Lodge.

Use for filming

A scene in the film That'll Be The Day (1973) starring David Essex was filmed by the boating pond in Oakwood Park.
