In 1922, C.R. Anthony opened his first family department store in
Cushing, Oklahoma . In 1972, C.R. Anthony retired from the company and his son, Guy Anthony, became president of the company. In 1980, Guy Anthony retired from the company and his son,Bob Anthony , became president of the company. In 1987, the company's shareholders voted to sell the company to an investor group sponsored by Citicorp Venture Capital.In 1990, Anthony's filed for
chapter 11 reorganization, from which it later emerged. At the time, it operated 182 stores in theUnited States . In 1997, Stage acquired C.R. Anthony's and rebranded all the Anthony's stores Stage.Former locations
