In June 1992,
Stage Stores , then known asSpecialty Retailers, Inc. (in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi) and reopened the stores in 1995 under the Stage name. Stage expanded into the Northwest with the acquision ofC. R. Anthony Co. and Tri-North stores in 1997, opening many new stores. Also in 1997,Uhlmans was acquired, bringing Stage to Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. All of these newly acquired stores, however, were closed by 1999 when Stage Stores filed for bankruptcy.Stores with the Stage nameplate still operate in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, and Oklahoma.
