Milecastle 53 (Banks Burn), one of the milecastles on Hadrian's Wall, is situated west of the hamlet of Banks, Cumbria and northeast of Lanercost Priory (grid reference NY564646). It lies 1520m west of Milecastle 52 and 1436m east of Milecastle 54.
It measures 21.9m east to west by 23.3m north to south. It has Type III gateways.
It was excavated in 1932.
