Its name means "walnut trees" both in Romanian and Hungarian. It administers two villages, Băiţa and Băiţa-Plai.

Nucet has a population of 2,399 (2002 census), made up of Romanians (94.83%), Hungarians (2.75%), Roma (1.83%), and others (0.59%).[1]
