The station is the first stop after Radyr on the City Line 5 km (3.1 mi) north of Cardiff Central. The City Line was originally a freight only line. However, in 1987, hourly passenger services began to run from Cardiff Central to Radyr.
Both of the station's two platforms are accessible for disabled passengers via ramps. The Cardiff-bound platform is accessible via a road bridge, whilst the Radyr-bound platform is accessiable via a small street (Beale Close) off the main road (Danescourt Way). A footbridge links the two platforms.
Danescourt also sees some non-stop trains in both directions, and freight trains to and from Tower Colliery to and from Aberthaw Power Station.
The station has been adopted under the Arriva Trains Wales 'Adopt a Station' scheme by one of its own drivers, David Avery and his two sons Ross and Tom.
