railway station ( _cy. Gorsaf Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr) is a mainline railway station serving the town ofBridgend ,South Wales . It is located approximately halfway betweenCardiff andSwansea at the point where the line to Maesteg diverges from theSouth Wales Main Line , and is the western terminus of theVale of Glamorgan Line fromCardiff via Barry andLlantwit Major . It is the fifth busiest station inWales afterCardiff Central ,Cardiff Queen Street , Newport and SwanseaPassenger services are operated by
First Great Western (trains to and fromLondon Paddington ) andArriva Trains Wales .The station has 4 platforms: 1A, 1, 2, and the rarely used platform 3. Platforms 1 and 2 are full length platforms used for almost all services including the Swansea to London high-speed service. Platform 1A was opened in
July 2005 byAndrew Davies to act as the terminus for the newly re-openedVale of Glamorgan Line , it is now also used for the service toAberdare . Platform 3, long redundant, has been re-commissioned as an overflow platform and is often used for the Bridgend toMaesteg service.ervices
