"Nothing" is a song recorded by American R&B-pop singer Janet Jackson for the soundtrack to the 2010 film Why Did I Get Married Too?. It was released digitally via iTunes as the lead single to the soundtrack on March 23, 2010.[1] The song was included in the Icon version of Janet Jackson's Number Ones album. The song was released in the UK in August 2010, with the video premiering on UK music channels on July 19.

Background

The song is the lead single for the 2010 film Why Did I Get Married Too?, in which Jackson co-starred with actor Tyler Perry and actor/singer Jill Scott. It was written and produced by Janet Jackson, Johntá Austin, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Jermaine Dupri. Jackson filmed the video on March 24, 2010.[2] The director is Tim Palen.[3] It premiered on April 1, 2010. The song was shortlisted for the 2011 Academy Award for Best Original Song[4].

Live performances

Jackson performed the song for the first time on the season 9 finale of American Idol in May 2010. The surprise performance of the medley of "Again", "Nothing" and "Nasty" later went to number one on iTunes music video chart. Jackson also included the song when she performed at the 2010 Essence Music Festival held in New Orleans, Louisiana. She included the song in a medley with "Let's Wait Awhile", "Come Back to Me", and "Again". The song was included in her current tour, Number Ones: Up Close and Personal.

"Nothing" debuted on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart the week ending April 10, 2010 at number 76.
