"Every Time" is a song by American R&B/pop singer Janet Jackson.

Song Information

Released on November 17, 1998, it was the sixth and final single released from Janet Jackson's sixth studio album "The Velvet Rope". In the song, Janet is afraid that she is starting to have feeling for someone despite the fact that she's "scared to fall in love" after being hurt in the past. The song was relatively a failure in many countries. It failed to make the top forty in Finland. The song missed the top twenty in Japan and the top fifty in Australia. However, it was Janet's first single able to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 without a commercial release due to a recent rule change.

Music video

The somewhat controversial video, directed by Matthew Rolston, shows Jackson partially (and not explicitly) nude in water. Shadows, camera tricks and a piece of fabric are used to keep the singer unexplicitly nude. Through the whole video, the singer is seen on the water. The video was filmed in the new Therme Vals spa and released in November 1998 (as a part of MTV's Spankin New Music Week). It received minor airplay in the United States. The video is featured on the 2001 limited bonus-DVD edition of "All For You" as well as the 2004 video compilation "".
