Its natural habitat is coral reefs and it is found in the waters around Australia, Cambodia, China, Comoros, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Micronesia, Mozambique, New Caledonia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Réunion, Seychelles, Singapore, the Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Vanuatu, and Vietnam [1].
