It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election.

Boundaries
The constituency is in the county of Hampshire, partly in both the districts of Basingstoke and Deane and the Test Valley, but focussed around the town of Andover. Smaller towns in the constituency include Tadley and Whitchurch.
Near Basingstoke, the boundaries are to be changed to more accurately reflect the rural areas around the Basingstoke constituency, and transfer the newer estates into Basingstoke constituency.
Member of Parliament
Since 1997 the MP for this safe Conservative seat has been Sir George Young, who has been Leader of the House of Commons since 2010. He was previously MP for the West London seat of Ealing Acton from 1974 to 1997, and was Transport Secretary in the Government of John Major from 1995 to 1997.
