List of Star Trek: Enterprise episodes

"Cold Station 12" is the name of the 81st episode from the television series Star Trek: Enterprise. It is the fifth episode from the fourth season of the series. "Cold Station 12" initially aired on November 5, 2004, on the American television network UPN. The episode is the middle of a three-episode arc involving the "Augments", preceded by "Borderland" and followed by "The Augments".

"Cold Station 12" (the working title was CS 12) is the second part of a three episode story arc involving the return of Brent Spiner (Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation) as the criminal mastermind Dr. Arik Soong, an ancestor of the scientist who created Data.

The title, "Cold Station 12", is named after the medical facility run by Starfleet Medical and the Denobulans, where much of this episode's plot unfolds. The episode features the first on-screen appearance of Dr. Jeremy Lucas, a close friend of Dr. Phlox who had been mentioned in numerous previous episodes.

Plot

After Dr. Arik Soong and his "Augments" escape Enterprise in a Klingon Bird-of-prey, Captain Archer and his crew proceed to the coordinates Soong had given earlier in the mission.

This is the location where the young Augments were raised and schooled by Dr. Soong. It is also where the Enterprise away team discovers a brother of the Augments named Udar. Analysis reveals that although Udar's DNA is similar to the other Augments, he has none of their enhanced abilities. Udar is nicknamed "Smike" by his Augment siblings after a handicapped character from the comic novel Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens.

In this episode, we learn that after the devastating Eugenics Wars (in which up to 35 million were killed), Earth's governments could not decide on the fate of the genetically enhanced embryos, so they were placed in cold storage for the time being.

We also find out that while Dr. Soong had stolen 19 embryos from Cold Station 12, some 1800 frozen embryos, leftover from the Eugenics Wars, are still stored at C-12.
