MDOT is overseen by Transportation Secretary Beverley K. Swaim-Staley, who replaced John Porcari in 2009 upon the latter's appointment as Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Transportation. With her appointment on September 1, 2009, Swaim-Staley became the first woman to serve as Maryland's Transportation Secretary.[2]
The agency is headquartered at 7201 Corporate Center Drive, which has a Hanover, Maryland address, in unincorporated Anne Arundel County.[3]
