Maryland Lottery

The Maryland Lottery is an independent agency of the Maryland government. Its games include Mega Millions, Powerball, Multi-Match, Keno, Bonus Match 5, and numerous scratch tickets. The Maryland Lottery is headquartered in Suite 330 at 1800 Washington Boulevard, in Montgomery Business Park, Baltimore.[1]

The minimum age to buy Maryland Lottery tickets is 18. For video lottery, currently available at Hollywood Casino Perryville, and on the Eastern Shore, the minimum age is 21.

Winning Maryland Lottery numbers are shown on various Baltimore television stations.

Maryland's latest Mega Millions jackpot winner was for the September 9, 2008 drawing. It was sold in Baltimore; the ticket holder, a 49-year-old woman, claimed the prize anonymously on September 15. It is worth $24 million annuity; the cash option of approximately $15 million was chosen instead.

Pick 3

Pick 3 is played twice daily, seven days a week. Prices, prizes, and options vary.

Pick 4

Pick 4 also is drawn twice daily.

Keno

Keno is played at Maryland Lottery retailers that have a monitor. Its drawings are every four minutes. Prices, prizes, and options vary.

Racetrax

Racetrax is played at Maryland Lottery retailers that have a monitor. Like Keno, it is a computer-animated game, but with a horse-racing motif. Prices, prizes, and options vary.

Bonus Match 5

Bonus Match 5 is once daily; its top prize is $50,000. Players get one game for $1, 3 boards for $2, 4 boards for $3, 6 boards for $4, 7 boards for $5, or 9 boards for $6. Bonus Match 5 draws 5 regular balls from 1 to 39, and one of the remaining 34 balls, the Bonus Ball. To win $50,000, all 5 regular numbers on one line must be matched. The Bonus Ball does not apply to the top prize.

Multi-Match

Multi-Match is drawn Mondays and Thursdays. It draws 6 numbers from 1 to 43. Players get 3 lines for $2.

Mega Millions (multi-lottery game)

On September 6, 1996, six lotteries, including Maryland's, began The Big Game; it became Mega Millions in 2002. Since 2005, the jackpots have started at $12 million. The Megaplier option will be coming to Maryland Lottery in January, 2011.

Powerball (multi-lottery game)

Powerball, from the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), is played in 44 jurisdictions. The game began in 1992. On October 13, 2009, the Mega Millions consortium and MUSL reached an agreement in principle to cross-sell Mega Millions and Powerball in US lottery jurisdictions. Maryland joined Powerball on January 31, 2010.
