History
The origins of the company that is now Veolia Transport NSW can be traced back to 1935 when motor-bus services began to operate between Sutherland Station and Woronora River. Following the opening of the Alfords Point Bridge in 1973, a variety of routes were operating, including extensions to Padstow station. The service was known as Menai Bus Service, and buses carried a white and green livery. In 1988, the company was sold to Ron Deane, who was already operating buses on the
North Shore , and was re-named Deanes Coaches. Buses were repainted white with yellow, blue and orange stripes. In 1988, the company expanded with the purchase of part of the old route 88 from Peakhurst Coaches, and the purchase of Hadfields at Engadine. The company was renamed Southtrans when these companies were purchased. Other bus companies were acquired in the 1990s, such as Buslines, Sutherland Bus Service and Carss' Park Chartered Tours. In 1999, the company was sold to Connex and renamed Connex Southtrans. Buses carried a white livery with a yellow front. Pioneer Coaches, Crossley Bus Lines and Baxters Bus Lines' Fairfield East depot operations were later acquired. In 2006, the company was renamed Veolia Transport NSW as part of a global corporate re-branding exercise. The livery changed to all-white.cite web| work=Veolia Transport | title=Veolia Transport NSW | url=http://www.connexnsw.com.au/ | accessdate=25 August | accessyear=2006] On1 February 2007 , Transit First was sold to Veolia Transport NSW, with the sale including 86 buses, 15 routes, and the lease on the current Bankstown Airport depot.Current operations
Veolia Transport NSW operates 53 bus routes from bus depots at Taren Point, Menai and Revesby serving the southern Sydney (Region 10), and Bankstown Airport and Villawood serving Region 13. It has a fleet of 264 buses. It operates three of Sydney's first new strategic bus corridors, between Hurstville and Miranda (routes 970 and 971), between Bankstown and Parramatta (route 910), and between Liverpool and Burwood (route 900). In 2006, Veolia took over operation of the N70 nightride bus. Region 13 routes underwent a reorganisation and simplification which were effective as of September 18, 2006. School services and charters are also a large part of their business. Veolia Transport NSW currently operate 264 buses.
After the 2006 reorganisation and simplification of Region 10 bus routes, on November 19 2007, many of the altered bus routes were restored to their original state due to a severe decline in passenger numbers and high levels of passenger complaints. The idea to make bus services "straighter" did not have a welcome reception with passengers of whom preferred convenience as opposed to speed on shorter routes.
On
9 January 2007 it was announced that Veolia had purchased the operations of Sydney bus companyTransit First [http://www.smh.com.au/news/Business/Veolia-to-expand-Sydney-bus-services/2007/01/09/1168104955916.html] . The handover took place on1 February 2007 .Current routes

Veolia, like many private bus companies in Sydney suffer from low patronage due to lack of ticketing and timetabling integration with trains and other bus services. Veolia does not offer Travelpass, Daytripper or Weekly Tickets, often making it more economical for the majority of railway passengers to drive themselves to the nearest railway station. Often it is cheaper for a weekly rail pass over a long distance than 5 return trips on a Veolia service. The only way to purchase a ticket on Veolia services is by paying cash for a single journey, greatly inconveniencing passengers, drivers and reducing the reliability of on-time running.
For the reasons noted above and unreliable train connections, it is not uncommon to see most Veolia services travelling around with fewer then 2 passenges on board and a lot of the time empty. State Government funding is the reason why services are financially viable with low patronage. It is widely recommended in Sydney that private bus companies such as Veolia accept Travelpass fares to greatly increase patronage and reduce car dependance.
