The community is nestled in the Back Creek valley.
Gore serves as the western terminus of the Winchester and Western Railroad. Gore is the birthplace of the author Willa Cather and the country music icon Patsy Cline.

- Sunrise (Muse House) (1815). Sunrise was constructed first as a simple log cabin; later additions converted it to a multi-room farmhouse with several porches.
