New Almaden is 11 miles (18 km) south-southeast of downtown San Jose. New Almaden has a post office with ZIP code 95042, which first opened in 1861. The community is named after the New Almaden mine, which opened in the area in 1848.[2][3] New Almaden was the childhood home of former Arizona Cardinals All-Pro safety Pat Tillman.
