- Music venues in the Netherlands
-
Music venues in the Netherlands are a vivid part of the social cultural environment of the country.
In every big city there are concert halls for classical music and jazz. The nine biggest music venues for popular music are Heineken Music Hall, Melkweg, Paradiso, Paard van Troje, Tivoli, Patronaat, 013, Effenaar, Doornroosje. A tenth bigger venue called Watt in Rotterdam has shut his doors in 2010. In every middle sized town of city (approx. 100.000 inhabitants) there's a music venue for popular music genres. In the Netherlands about fifty of these music venues receive funding from the government following the advices of Muziek Centrum Nederland. Other venues are independent or subsidiarised by the cities themselves or are local social centres, community centers and cultural centers with a stage facilitating music performances.
