Corinex Communications Corp. was founded in 1999 and provides AnyWire connectivity solutions which distribute high speed IP signals over electrical wiring, coax, and telephone lines.[1]

Focusing on all three areas of Broadband over power lines (In-Home, In-Building, and Access BPL) has enabled Corinex to attain the largest market share in the industry. Frost & Sullivan (the only comprehensive research study available for the BPL industry) awarded Corinex with the 2005 Product Line Strategy Award based on Corinex’ “successful equipment product portfolio, which gives the company a superior advantage over its competitors in the marketplace” and Corinex’ assessment and address of customer demands “with innovative, cutting edge products”.

Corinex products are being deployed worldwide by telecom operators, utilities, system integrators, and home users and include over 500 Multi Dwelling Unit installations, 40 IPTV operators, 50 Power Utility Installations and have over 50 distributors worldwide.[2] Corinex Communications Corp. is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Its R&D and Engineering is situated in Shenzhen, China and Bratislava, Slovakia.[3] The biggest competitors of Corinex Communications Corp. are Mitsubishi Electric, Ambient, Current and Telkonet.[4][5][6][7]

History

The history of Corinex closely correlates with the history of AnyWire connectivity solutions which distribute 200Mbps IP signals over electrical wiring and coaxial cables, in buildings, homes, and over electrical power grids. Corinex started with a 384kB Powerline product based on an Inari chipset in 2000, and was the first to introduce a 14Mbps product based on an Intellon chipset in 2001.[8] A 200Mbps product was introduced by Corinex in January 2005.[9] The same 200Mbps Powerline product was used as an In-home solution by Telefonica later that year for the deployment of an IPTV home entertainment and communications package in Telefonica’s Imagenio program -the first use of PLC technology for IPTV deployment.[10][11]

Corinex entered the BPL access market in 2006 with large scale deployment of BPL access technology at CenterPoint Energy for 10,000 electric meters.[12][13] The system integrator of the project was IBM.[12]

Upon Corinex’ 2006 introduction of PLC technology to the retail market, the company received three Best of RetailVision awards. In October 2006 Corinex Communications Corp., along with Deutsche Telekom AG, Ericsson AB, JDSU, Tellabs and select others became one of the International Engineering Consortium Info Vision Finalists for the Best Access Product. At this time, the Corinex MV Access Gateway was the first and only 200Mbps Powerline product shipping in volume to have been granted FCC Class 15G certification (FCC ID: QIU-CXP-MVA-GWY).[14][15][16]

In 2007 Corinex introduced the only BPL-GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) in the industry, for which it was named the 2008 Broadband World Forum Finalist in Hong Kong.[17]

The first electric meter with Powerline module in the industry was also introduced by Corinex in 2007, and consequently won the UTC Telecom Best AMI Platform Award.

Corinex ranked 21st in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Award in 2007. A year later, it ranked 70th in North America in the 2008 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 becoming the sixth fastest growing technological company in Canada.[18]

In April 2009, CNN released a short video about CenterPoint Energy explaining their Smart Grid solutions delivered by IBM. This delivery is made possible by the application of Corinex Powerline solution which provides the communication backbone on medium voltage lines.[19]
