Universal Powerline Association

The Universal Powerline Association (UPA) is a trade association which covers all power line communication markets and all power line communication applications. The UPA aims to promote the growth of power line communication technology by delivering certified products that comply with agreed specifications.

History

An interest group for the UPA was established by the founding members in May 2004. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the founding members in September 2004, and the UPA was officially announced in January 2005.

pecifications

Universal Powerline Association has released a number of specifications related to different aspects of powerline technology. Basically, three areas have been covered by these specifications:

Coexistence:- UPA coexistence specification, June 2005.

Access BPL (Broadband over Powerlines) networks:- UPA Access specification (OPERA project endorsed specification), February 2006.

Inhome systems and solutions, triple play scenarios.- UPA Digital Home Specification v1.0, February 2006. UPA works with international standardisation bodies such as IEEE and ETSI.
