Chinsurah subdivision (Bengali: চুঁচুড়া মহকুমা), is a subdivision of the Hooghly district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of two municipalities (Hugli-Chuchura and Bansberia) and five community development blocs: Balagarh, Chinsurah–Mogra, Dhaniakhali, Pandua and Polba–Dadpur. The five blocks contain 69 gram panchayats and 11 census towns. The subdivision has its headquarters at Hugli-Chuchura.

Area

Apart from the Hugli-Chuchura municipality and Bansberia municipality, the subdivision contains 11 census towns and rural areas of 69 gram panchayats under five community development blocs: Balagarh, Chinsurah–Mogra, Dhaniakhali, Pandua and Polba–Dadpur.^[1] The 11 census towns are: Badhagachhi, Kodalia, Raghunathpur, Madhusudanpur, Amodghata, Shankhanagar, Chak Bansberia, Kulihanda, Simla, Dharmapur, Pandua.^[2]

Blocks

Balagarh block

Rural area under Balagarh block consists of 13 gram panchayats, viz. Baklia Dhobapara, Ektarpur, Somra–I, Charkrishnabati, Guptipara–I, Somra–II, Dumurdaha Nityanandapur–I, Guptipara–II, Sripur–Balagarh, Jirat, Dumurdaha Nityanandapur–II, Mohipalpur and Sija Kamalpur.^[1] Urban area under this block consists of one census town: Badhagachhi.^[2] Balagarh police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Patuligram.^[4]

Chinsurah–Mogra block

Rural area under Chinsurah–Mogra block consists of 10 gram panchayats, viz. Bandel, Debanandapur, Kodalia–II, Saptagram, Chandrahati–I, Digsui Hoyera, Mogra–I, Chandrahati–II, Kodalia–I and Mogra–II.^[1] Urban area under this block consists of nine census towns: Kodalia, Raghunathpur, Madhusudanpur, Amodghata, Shankhanagar, Chak Bansberia, Kulihanda, Simla and Dharmapur.^[2] Chinsurah and Mogra police stations serve this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Mogra.^[4]

Dhaniakhali block

Rural area under Dhaniakhali block consists of 18 gram panchayats, viz. Belmuri, Dashghara–II, Gudubari–I, Perambua Sahabazar, Bhandarhati–I, Dhanekhali–I, Gudubari–II, Bhandarhati–II, Dhanekhali–II, Gurap, Somaspur–I, Bhastara, Gopinathpur–I, Khajudaha Milki, Somaspur–II, Dashghara–I, Gopinathpur–II and Mandra.^[1] There is no urban area under this block.^[2] Dhaniakhali police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Dhaniakhali.^[4]

Pandua block

Rural area under Pandua block consists of 16 gram panchayats, viz. Bantika Bainchi, Jamna, lchhobadaspur, Rameswarpur–Gopalnagar, Beloon Dhamasin, Jamnagar MondalaiI, Panchagara–Toregram, Berela Konchmali, Jayer Dwarbasini, Shikhira Chanpta, Haral Daspur, Kshirkundi–Namajgram–Niyasa, Pandua, Simlagarh Vitasin, Itachuna Khanyan and Sarai–Tinna.^[1] Urban area under this block consists of one census town: Pandua.^[2] Pandua police station serves this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Pandua.^[4]

Polba–Dadpur block

Rural area under Polba–Dadpur block consists of 12 gram panchayats, viz. Akhna, Dadpur, Mahanad, Rajhat, Amnan, Goswami Malipara, Makalpur, Satithan, Babnan, Harit, Polba and Sugandha.^[1] There is no urban area under this block.^[2] Polba and Dadpur police stations serve this block.^[3] Headquarters of this block is in Barunapur.^[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal:^[5]

• The area under the Hugli-Chuchura municipality, the gram panchayats of Bandel, Debanandapur, Kodalia–I and Kodalia–II under the Chinsurah–Mogra block, and the gram panchayats of Polba, Rajhat and Sugandha under the Polba–Dadpur block will together form the Chunchura assembly constituency of West Bengal.
• The gram panchayats of Chandrahati–I, Chandrahati–II, Digsui Hoyera and Mogra–I under the Chinsurah–Mogra block will be part of the area defining the Balagarh assembly constituency.
• The gram panchayats of Saptagram and Mogra–II under the Chinsurah–Mogra block, the Bansberia municipality area, and five gram panchayats under the Polba–Dadpur block, viz. Akhna, Amnan, Goswami Malipara, Harit and Mahanad, will form the Saptagram assembly constituency.
• The other four gram panchayats under the Polba–Dadpur block—Dadpur, Makalpur, Satithan and Babnan—will be part of the Dhanekhali assembly constituency. The rest of the area defining this constituency will be covered by thirteen gram panchayats under the Dhaniakhali block, viz. Belmuri, Bhastara, Dashghara–I, Dashghara–II, Dhanekhali–I, Dhanekhali–II, Gurap, Gudubari–I, Gudubari–II, Khajudaha Milki, Mandra, Somaspur–I and Somaspur–II.
• The other five gram panchayats under the Dhaniakhali block, viz. Perambua Sahabazar, Bhandarhati–I, Bhandarhati–II,, Gopinathpur–I, Gopinathpur–II, will be part of the Tarakeswar assembly constituency.
• The Pandua block will define the area under the Pandua assembly constituency.
• The assembly constituencies of Balagarh and Dhanekhali will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates.
• The constituencies of Chunchura, Balagarh, Saptagram, Dhanekhali and Pandua will be assembly segments of the Hooghly (Lok Sabha constituency).
• The Tarakeswar constituency will be assembly segments of the Arambag (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for SC candidates.
