The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) was developed and is currently maintained by the American Academy of Pediatrics.[1] This program focuses on the teaching and maintaining basic skills for the resuscitation of neonates.[2] NRP's didactic portion includes nine lessons modules along with 5 skills stations that include hands-on training as well as skills.[3] The program is intended for physicians, nurses, midwives, respiratory therapists, and paramedics involved in critical care or transport of neonates. Providers that take NRP are diverse in their scope of practice. The course outline is flexible to allow providers to take modules directly related to their practice.[4]

The program was developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in conjunction with the American Heart Association (AHA) following the neonatal resuscitation guidelines published in 2005.[5][6] These guidelines incorporate evidence-based medicine (EBM).[7][8]
