The station consists of an elevated island platform.
The Concord station operated as a terminal station from the time when BART opened until 1995 when the line was extended to North Concord/Martinez. Pittsburg/Bay Point is now the terminal.
Some trains still terminate and start at Concord station. Typically 24th Street trains for rush hour start here, and return to the station as Concord trains. Concord was originally the last station on the line and so some BART service still starts and ends there. The Concord station sits just north of the Concord yard, where trains for the Bay Point line are typically stored and launched. Occasionally, trains will stop near the yard to allow personnel to off board.

Derailment
In early 2011 on a Sunday around 9am, a southbound 9 car SFO/Millbrae train derailed just south of Concord station injuring many passengers[quantify] and massively disrupting train service for the rest of the line. The train had to be hoisted back onto the tracks and moved out of the way so the early morning commute could commence for the morning after. This is one of the only two recent BART train derailments; the other recent derailment happened within the Oakland subway near 19th Street, where passengers were hurt and had to be evacuated.[citation needed]
Service at this station began on May 21, 1973.[3]
This station is in BART District 1 and is represented by Gail Murray who is also current BART President.[4]
