- Downtown San José (BART station)
-
Downtown San Jose BART station is a planned underground Bay Area Rapid Transit station in southern San Jose, California, part of the Silicon Valley BART extension. The station will be co-located with the Santa Clara Light Rail Station and will have direct service to Santa Clara, Richmond and San Francisco/Daly City.[1]
Background and plans
Scheduled for completion in 2014, the Warm Springs extension is being built by BART from Fremont to Warm Springs station in the Warms Springs District in Fremont. This will be followed by the first extension of BART into Santa Clara county, to be built by VTA. The original plan for the San Jose extension included the Downtown San Jose station, but funding could not be secured[2] and the San Jose extension was split into two phases. Phase one, planned for completion in 2018, is the Berryessa Extension[3] into eastern San Jose. The Downtown San Jose station will be included in a subsequent, unfunded phase two, the San Jose subway extension, to be completed after 2025[4]. The station will be located between the Alum Rock and Diridon/Arena BART stations.
Local bus service will be provided by VTA in addition to commuter service from Santa Cruz Metro, Monterey Salinas Transit, San Benito Transit and private/ employer shuttles.
