Contents
Background and development
The first single, "Put On", is produced by Drumma Boy, and it features Kanye West using an Auto-Tune effect.[2] The second single, "Vacation", was released on August 12, 2008.[3] Production came from DJ Toomp, Shawty Redd, Don Cannon, and Drumma Boy.[4] On October 25, 2008, Young Jeezy released a third single, "Crazy World". It is said that Jeezy finished the recording on the "Crazy World" video on October 25, and it was directed by Marc Klasfeld. Young Jeezy has also finished making the video "Who Dat", it was directed by Gabriel Hart, and was produced by Shawty Redd. Young Jeezy has stated on MTV News that he is planning on making a video for every track on the album. One of the biggest surprises on the album is the appearance of Nas, whom Jeezy had been briefly angry at in late 2006 due to Nas titling his album Hip-Hop Is Dead. On 106 & Park, Jeezy stated that the material on this album was like "Thug Motivation on steroids". Young Jeezy in a recent interview with XXL stated that his next album will feature Don Cannon produced tracks multiple times.[5]
Commercial performance
The album sold 260,000 copies in it's first week in the United States, 92,000 copies short of his previous album, The Inspiration (2006) with first week of 352,000 copies.[6] Since its release, The Recession has since been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and has sold over one million copies to date in the United States.[7][8]
