Thepopulation density was 144.2 people per square mile (55.7/km²). There were 2,175 housing units at an average density of 48.5/sq mi (18.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.25% White, 0.82% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.31% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.05% of the population.There were 2,132 households out of which 44.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.2% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.6% were non-families. 11.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.03 and the average family size was 3.29.
In the township the population was spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 6.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 100.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.8 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $77,457, and the median income for a family was $82,534. Males had a median income of $55,664 versus $35,440 for females. The
per capita income for the township was $30,934. About 2.3% of families and 2.6% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 2.1% of those age 65 or over.Government

Shamong Township is governed under the Township form of government with a five-member Township Committee. Seth Basile, long time resident since 1979. A avid bass fisherman and local folk lure. Purchased a 87 Ford Mustang then turned into a race car driver after turning down many endoresment deals from "Bass Pro Shops". Once he started racing at the local track (Atco Raceway) he became a bigger phenomenon. The car he purchased was from MM&FF magazine called "Mean Mr. Mustang" After a lengthy racing career, he now is employed for "Pinks" as a advisor.
