For virtually its entire length, the road parallels a rail line.

NY 437

New York State Route 437 is the shortest signed state highway in New York, located entirely within the vicinity of Melrose Park in Cayuga County. It is a brief connector route, 1,584 feet (483 m) in total length, [http://www.gribblenation.net/nyroutes/ind/430_439.htm#437 New York Routes - New York State Route 437] ] between Routes 38 and 38A. NY 437, assigned in 1970, [cite web|url=http://www.greaternyroads.info/pdfs/state70.pdf|title=Official Description of Touring Routes in New York State|date=1970-01-01|author=State of New York Department of Transportation|accessdate=2007-12-23] is known locally as White Bridge Road.

NY 437 is located at the north end of Owasco Lake in the Towns of Fleming and Owasco, just south of the city of Auburn. The highway begins at traffic circle with Route 38 (Lake Avenue) and travels east through Emerson Park, a public park owned and maintained by Cayuga County, then over the Owasco Inlet. NY 437 terminates soon after at a T-intersection with NY 38A. [cite map|publisher=Google Maps|url=http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=White+Bridge+Road,+Melrose+Park,+NY&um=1&sa=N&tab=wl|title=Overview Map of White Bridge Road|accessdate=2007-09-08] The highway allows motorists, especially those wanting quick access to the opposite side of the lake, to avoid having to cross the Owasco Outlet further downstream, in the city.

At its western end, NY 437 culminates in a traffic circle, one of few New York state highways to end at such a feature. NY 27 also ends in an apparent traffic circle at its eastern terminus on Montauk Point, but it is a closed loop creating by the highway running back into itself (as does U.S. 9 just short of the Canadian border). NY 635, in neighboring Onondaga County, ends at NY 298 and Exit 35 of the New York State Thruway via a traffic circle in Syracuse.
