History

The airport was approved for construction in 1998. Construction started on May 29, 2003, and the airport began its operations on August 27, 2005. It was intended to replace the operations of Changchun Dafangshen Airport (长春大房身机场), which was closed after Changchun Longjia commenced operations, and commercial flights to and from Jilin Airport were transferred to Changchun Longjia from October 3, 2005. The airport was later expanded in 2009, the construction added two more boarding gates to the airport and was finished in May,2011. The airport is now able to handle the Boeing 747s. [4] It is predicted that by 2015, the airport will be able to handle 6.5 million passengers per year.[5]
