Malpighian layer

Malpighian layer
Histologic image of the epidermis with its layers named in white text.

The Malpighian layer of the skin is a term that is generally defined as both the stratum basale and stratum spinosum as a unit,[1][2] although it is occasionally defined as the stratum basale specifically.[3] Also, the term is occasionally used synonymously as the prickle cell layer[4] (although prickle cell layer generally is defined as the stratum spinosum specifically[5]) or to designate a part of the stratum corneum.[6]

It is named after Marcello Malpighi.
