Academics

CCAD offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in nine areas: Advertising and Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Fine Arts (including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and glassblowing), Illustration, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Photography, Animation, and Media Studies including computer graphics, video and computer animation. In addition to major areas of concentration, CCAD also offers specialized courses of study in art therapy, fashion illustration, product design, package design. The college offers evening and weekend classes, which usually attract local residents, especially children. The college also has its own exhibition space, the Canzani Center Gallery, which hosts Bureau for Open Culture, an exhibition program for the contemporary arts.

CCAD graduates hold key positions as artists and designers in major companies and institutions throughout the country and abroad. Their success speaks well of the foundation program, believed by many to be the finest in the country, and the constant focus on professionalism. The aesthetic philosophy of the school has been much influenced by the Bauhaus school and movement from Germany in the early twentieth century. Regardless of a student's major—whether they intend to make their mark on canvas or in clay, on film, or with digital images—CCAD places a strong emphasis on the fundamental principles of art and design, and on the mastery of techniques and materials. At the same time, CCAD stresses the methods used in today's professional work environments.

CCAD is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the Higher Learning Commission, Member of the North Central Association, and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Interior Design program is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA—formerly FIDER).
