Geography
Norway is located at 44°12′41″N 70°32′18″W / 44.21139°N 70.53833°W (44.211544, -70.538375).[1]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.6 km²), of which, 5.1 square miles (13.1 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²) of it (3.44%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 2,623 people, 1,173 households, and 659 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 517.8 people per square mile (199.8/km²). There were 1,347 housing units at an average density of 265.9/sq mi (102.6/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.71% White, 0.42% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.38% of the population.
There were 1,173 households out of which 25.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.0% were married couples living together, 14.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.8% were non-families. 36.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.75.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 81.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.0 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $24,781, and the median income for a family was $30,128. Males had a median income of $26,338 versus $19,868 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $17,161. About 14.9% of families and 17.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 26.1% of those under age 18 and 13.1% of those age 65 or over.
