Ortis Deley (pronounced /ˈoʊtɪs/ oh-tis) (born 1973) is a British television presenter, radio DJ and actor of Ghanaian/Nigerian descent. He went to Ernest Bevin College in Tooting Bec, London. He is currently one of the presenters of The Gadget Show and presenter of Choice FM on Sunday mornings.

Career

Deley studied for a degree in Pharmacy at the University of Sunderland and graduated in 1995. It was an appearance on LWT's Blind Date as a contestant that put him in the public eye having been spotted by leading industry Manager at the time Jan Simmonds.

Acting

Deley has a cameo in the 2006 feature film Derailed alongside Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston. He has starred in BBC One's drama serial Doctors, and taken part in a production of Alan Ayckbourn's Confusions at The Leatherhead Theatre. He has also played a lead role in the critically acclaimed fringe theatre production of Talkin' Loud at The Latchmere Theatre. In 2005, he played Tom in the Doctor Who spin-off audio plays Wildthyme at Large and The Devil in Ms Wildthyme. In 2006, he appeared as Derek, the brother of Moony, in the low-budget British movie Kidulthood. On the 3rd May 2007, he played the part of a drug dealer on the The Bill. He also played a policeman in CBBC's children's show 'SCOOP'.

LWT

His first job in television was for LWT; a pilot Saturday Breakfast show entitled Up Your Street, followed by Passport to Passion.

TCC (UK) and Trouble TV

He found his home as the anchor presenter for the cable & satellite channel Trouble live twice weekly on. He also co-presented It's In the Jeans, a series of 12 shows taking a light-hearted look at how teenagers relate to the opposite sex, as well as chart show Blast, entertainment show The T-Spot and music magazine programme iPop. Throughout the summer of 2000 he made broadcasting history by presenting T-Nation which was the first live broadcast television show from the biggest store in Europe, Top Shop, on Oxford Street.

Ortis toured the country with the Smash Hits Roadshow from 1998 to 2000; interviewing bands for exclusive backstage footage, gossip and news. In 1999 and 2000 he hosted the roadshow itself.

BBC

Deley worked for Trouble for 4 years before joining the BBC to present Short Change and then Live & Kicking.

In 2002, he hosted Making It, the BBC's talent search for a new children's presenter.

He worked as one of the key presenters on CBBC's daily magazine show Xchange.

He appeared in an episode of Chucklevision, which aired on 14 June 2007.

He was a presenter in CBBC show Wonderful World of Weird from February to March 2007.

He had a cameo role in British award winning drama kidulthood.

For BBC One, he presented and reported on monetary and consumer issues affecting children and teenagers for Short Change. He was the main anchor presenter from 1998 to 2005. He also appeared on programmes for BBC Choice (now BBC Three) as one of the main presenters on Hype and Hype on the Road. On BBC One, he has also been the main presenter on a youth science programme, Why 5, which ran for two series. He was also the presenter of CBBC's 'Sorcerer's Apprentice'.

Following this, he presented X-perimental, a science series for CBBC produced by Endemol.

On BBC Radio 5 Live, Ortis presented his own sports show featuring in depth interviews with British Athletes preparing for the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

In 2008, he returned to CBBC to co-present Best of Friends.

The Gadget Show

In early 2009, he joined the popular technology show The Gadget Show as a co-presenter to Suzi Perry, Jon Bentley and Jason Bradbury, making his debut in the Road Trip Special episode on the 30 January 2009. He replaced Dallas Campbell.

Choice FM

In late 2010, he started a Sunday morning slot on London's Choice FM from 9am to 1pm.

Channel 4

In July 2011 it was announced that Deley would be anchoring Channel 4's live coverage of the IAAF World Athletics Championships from Daegu, South Korea. Deley began on 27 August but struggled to win the audience as many viewers^[1] complained about his stilted delivery and the mixing up of his colleagues' names.^[2] He was replaced as the main presenter on 30 August by former T4 presenter Rick Edwards, who had previously been presenting the evening highlights programme.^[3]

Other appearances

• He hosted The People's Choice Black Music Awards for Five as well as appearing as a regular guest / singer / team captain on Night Fever, also for Five.
• He was one of the main presenters on the last ever two series of the BBC's flagship Saturday morning show, Live & Kicking.
• He co-hosted the British Academy Children's Film and Television Awards with Emma Bunton, at The London Hilton. Highlights of the show were broadcast on ITV.
• In 2004, he received a second nomination from the organisation for Best Presenter.
• On BBC Radio 5 Live, he presented his own sports show which featured in depth interviews with British Athletes preparing for the Sydney Olympics.
• On primetime BBC One, he presented a one-off special for Tomorrow's World entitled Lab Rats.
• He also appeared on BBC Two's Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
• He is now auditioning for parts in musicals, theatre, television dramas and films as well as continuing his presenting.
• In 2005, he guest starred in an episode of ChuckleVision, acting as a music agent and fashion designer.
• He has also appeared as an analyst on Sky Sports' NBA Basketball coverage.
• In 2006, he was a contestant on the first series of reality show Celebrity Scissorhands.
• He does the UK voice for DJ Lance Rock in Yo Gabba Gabba!.
• He appeared as a pundit on Most Annoying People 2008 on BBC Three.
• He also appeared on the World Cup 2010's Most Shocking Moments on BBC Three.
• Before he was well known, he appeared on an episode of Cilla Black's Blind Date in 1994.
• He's lead singer in a band that does rock covers called Revenge Of Gentlemen.^[4]
• He appeared as a guest on The Wright Stuff as a guest everyday for a week in May 2011.
• He appears briefly in Pirates of the Caribbean 2.
