"Best of Friends" is a children's game show on CBBC that first aired on September 30, 2004 and is still running as of 2008.

Format

Tasks and treats

In the show, five friends with a strong friendship must complete a series of three unpleasant tasks in order to win a final treat The tasks include mucking out pigs, cleaning bins, picking up ice with the bare feet, getting your feet tickled without laughing or smiling and so on, for the test of friendship. While some members of the group are doing the task, their friends do treats such as visiting animals at the RSPCA, getting a manicure, shopping, going to a football game, going to a theme park etc. They must make decisions deciding on who will do the task and who will do the treat or they can use the "Unlucky Dip".

"The Unlucky Dip"

The unlucky dip contains three, two or one blue sweet(s) in a bag. The friends choose a sweet each (without looking) from the bag, and then suck it. The number of children to do the next task, and therefore the number of blue sweets in the bag, will depend on the success of the previous task. The people or person with the blue sweet(s) will have a blue tongue and will be forced to do the task, while the others will do the treat. The first task requires three people and, each time the children pass a task, the number needed to do the next task will reduce. For the final task they have three options:the unlucky dip, volunteer or the whole team can do the task as it is the hardest.

The presenters also do a compulsary Unlucky Dip with each task, the same as the friends, should the friends choose to do so as they have the option of volunteering to do the task.

Presenters

The show is presented by Michael 'Abs' Absalom and Rani Price from CBBC. A new series, which starting airing in March 2008, had Ortis Deley replacing Rani for most of the series, as she was busy presenting Roar, another CBBC programme, but she returned for series 5 which began with the specials and Ortis returned only as a guest presenter.

The first Sport special was for Sport Relief 2006. Abs and Rani presented the special taking a look at all the sport tasks and treats of all two series so far.

This was the first episode for series 5 presented by Iwan Thomas and Darren Campbell. They had special sport related tasks and treats. This series began on 2nd April 2008.

Music special

Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes presented this special on 9th April 2008 with music related tasks and treats.

Activities Special

Zoe Salmon and Iwan Thomas presented episode 3 of series 5 which had activities some how related int the tasks and treats. This aired on 16th April 2008.

Food Special

Episode 4 was presented by Gemma Hunt and regular presenter, Ortis Deley. They challenged the five bst friends with food related tasks. This first aired on 23rd April 2008.

*N.B. This was Gemma's first appearance CBBC since September 2nd presenting the final day of the CBBC Channel before the 2007 relaunch.

Performance Special

Friendships are put on the line with a series of terrible tasks and tantalising treats, as Sam and Mark put five children through their paces in a performance edition of the show. This special which is episode 5 of the series first aired on 30th April 2008.

pinoff Series

Best of Friends Africa

This was a special spin-off which was shown to conicide with BBC Africa week. The show followed the same concept but it was filmed with african people in Africa.
