Geography
Northeast Community boundaries are roughly the Hillsborough River to the north, 40th Street to the west, Hillsborough Avenue to the south and Del Rio to the east. [1]

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,483 people and 562 households residing in the neighborhood. The population density was 4,633/mi². The racial makeup of the neighborhood was 10.0% White, 84.0% African American, 0.0% Native American, 0.0% Asian, less than 2.0% from other races, and 3.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.0% of the population.
There were 562 households out of which 36% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 30% were married couples living together, 22% had a female householder with no husband present, and 6% were non-families. 24% of all households were made up of individuals.
In the neighborhood the population was spread out with 33% under the age of 18, 20% from 18 to 34, 23% from 35 to 49, 15% from 50 to 64, and 10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 86.0 males.
The per capita income for the neighborhood was $12,716. About 31% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.0% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.
