Momondo URL http://www.momondo.com Type of site Travel website Registration not required Available language(s) English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Russian, Dutch, Czech, Finnish Owner Cheapflights.com Launched September 2006 Momondo.com is a Copenhagen-based[1] travel search engine that allows consumers to compare prices on flights, hotels and car rental. The search engine aggregates results from more than 700 travel websites simultaneously to give an overview of the best offers found. Momondo does not sell tickets; instead, it shows the consumer where to buy at the best prices and links to the supplier. It is free of charge to use Momondo, which receives commission from sponsored links and advertising. In 2007 NBC Today’s Travel recommended that when it comes to finding the best offers on flights, the consumer should go to sites like Kayak, Mobissimo, SideStep and Momondo instead of buying tickets from third-party sites that actually sell travel and are dealing directly with the airlines.[2]
In addition to price comparisons, Momondo also offers city guides written by the site's users and by bloggers based in different cities.[3]
In November 2010 Momondo co-hosted and sponsored the first European TBEX conference on travel blogging held in Copenhagen.[4]

History
Momondo was launched in September 2006 as a flight search engine only. In September 2009 the website was re-launched now also offering city-guides and travel content. Since it has expanded to also offering price comparisons on trains (integrated in the flight search) and it has become a multilingual site that supports English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Turkish, Russian and Dutch.
In April 2011 Momondo was sold to the British/American search engine Cheapflights, though Momondo is still based in Copenhagen and continues to operate as an autonomous company.
Media
In the early stages Momondo, was mostly covered by the Danish media, such as DR1[5] and B.T.,[6] drastically increasing the number of unique visitors from Denmark. Gradually, Momondo has built a broader international following, helped by Frommers.com’s October 2007 test comparing different search engines and concluding that Momondo came up with the best offers.[7] Subsequently CNN concluded that Momondo is the best flight search engine for: “Searching far and wide – fast”[8]; and recommendations by CBS,[9] ABC[10] and The Daily Telegraph,[11] amongst others, has further cemented Momondo’s position in the eye of the consumer. In the summer 2009 Momondo was recommended on Croatian tv,[12] and in October 2009 Momondo won a price test conducted by the Consumer Council of Norway.[13] In December 2009 Momondo's flight search engine won a test conducted by the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang/Dine Penger.[14] In January 2010 Momondo partner, Martin Lumbye, was interviewed in Arthur Frommer's radio show,[15] and later in the month Kim Komando recommended Momondo's flight search engine and city guides.[16] In February 2010 Momondo received very positiv reviews from one of the world's largets travel magazines, Travel + Leisure,[17] from ShermansTravel.com,[18] Momondo's train search engine was recommended in The Washington Post[19] and Smarter Travel pointed out in a review that Momondo brings new features to metasearch.[20] In March 2010 Momondo was recommended by The New York Times[21] and in April Chicago Tribune[22] and Los Angeles Times[23] tested and compared Momondo with other travel search engines. In June 2010 the influential US travel- and technologysite, Tnooz, reviewed Momondo and highlightened that the search engine has trains, planes and Southwest Airlines.[24] Also in June 2010 Momondo won a test conducted by Family Travel Forum who had compared different travel search engines.[25] In August 2010 Momondo won a survey in The Sunday Times who had compared and tested seven of the world's biggest travelsites.[26] In January 2011 Momondo was recommended on CBS News.[27]
