Komando has come under fire for offering misleading and "emotionally-driven" advice. In particular, Komando's August 7, 2008 column for "USA Today" [http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/kimkomando/2008-08-07-digital-drugs_N.htm] warned of the risk of "digital drugs," in the form of acoustic binaural beats, an experimental noise intended to manipulate brain waves, but whose efficacy is currently supported by little or no scientific evidence. Komando suggested that parents should be worried about their children getting "idosers" online, leading at least one publication to suggest she was "beating up a story for sensationalistic purposes."
